Gambia's Yahya Jammeh steps down after neighbours' pressure

Jammeh said he is abdicating, a month after refusing to concede an election defeat to Adama Barrow.

 

what it means:

In practice, he had no choice after 7,000 Nigerian and Senegalese soldiers entered Gambia with tanks and warplanes. They were poised to move into the capital as Jammeh’s army provided no resistance.

 

what next:

He made no mention of whether he would go into exile but was grateful there was no bloodshed.
