International kite festival begins today

1.      The second international kite festival held in connection with the Sankranthi festival will begin here on                             Thursday. A special kite flying event will be held on Thursday night at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road.
2.      The International kite festival will come to a close on January 15 in the city. The festival will also be held at                   Yadagirigutta on January 16 and Warangal on January 17.
3.      The festival is expected to have a footfall of 50,000 visitors. The event is dedicated to the social cause of raising           awareness about education and empowerment of girl child. Aga Khan Academy will host the festival January 13,           14 and 15.
4.      The tagline of the festival is “to fly a kite for a girl child and colour the sky for a cause”.
5.      Competitors from 17 countries are expected to take part in the kite festival which will see 70 international and              40 national kite fliers.
6.      The tourism department plans to conduct the festival in cities across the State in the ensuing years.
