U.S. bases in the Asia-Pacific region could be vulnerable to a pre-emptive Chinese missile strike, and satellite images suggest Beijing is practising for attacks against a range of targets at a test site in western China. There are over 30 U.S. bases in South Korea, Japan and Guam that are within range of Chinese SRBMs, MRBMs and Land Attack Cruise Missiles. Military analysis website War on the Rocks reports that the test site in the Gobi Dessert features mockups of ships at Yokosuka naval base, hardened aircraft bunkers at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa, plus electrical substations, above-ground fuel storage depots, and other support facilities.
