India has successfully test-fired indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile. The launch of the Interceptor Missile was carried out by Defence Research and Development Organisation from Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast on Wednesday.
- The missile is capable of destroying any incoming enemy ballistic missile at low altitude.
- This is the second time that the missile has been test-fired in less than a month and is part of an effort to put in place a multi-layer missile defence system.
- The interceptor is a 7.5-meter long single stage solid rocket propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system, a hi-tech computer and an electro-mechanical activator.
