  • Cabinet approves Continuation of sub-schemes under Umbrella Scheme “Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). These sub-schemes will be continued till November 30, 2018 with financial outlay of over Rs.41000 crore.
  • Karnataka Legislative Assembly unanimously passed ‘Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Bill, 2017’.The bill has two categories of practices – ‘savings’ and ‘schedule’.
  • Indian Government has decided to cancel a $500 million deal for procuring Spike ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) from Israel. The $500 million deal to procure Spike ATGM form Rafael Advanced Defence Systems of Israel was expected to be signed after price negotiations completed last year.
  • Union Cabinet has given its approval for continuation of the scheme on Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) for another three financial years (2017-18 to 2019-20). Besides, it has also been decided to providing Grants-in-aid of Rs.18 crore to the Institute. Government aims to make IICA a self-sustainable institute by the end of FY 2019-20.
  • Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has retained the prestigious seat of the Director on Global Board of International Co-operative Alliance (ICA). This is the second time in a row that IFFCO has retained the seat of the Director on Global Board of ICA.
  • Digital payments services company, Paytm has entered in to a tie-up with ICICI Bank to jointly launch ‘Paytm-ICICI Bank Postpaid’, that offers short-term credit to their common customers.Based on the credit-score, instant interest-free credit is offered to the customer. The borrowed amount has to be repaid within 45 days, after which interest at the rate of 3% is charged just as per terms of a physical credit card product.
  • In a bid to kick-start its lending operations focused on retail and small & medium enterprises (SMEs), Centrum Capital has acquired South Africa-based First Rand Bank’s (FRB’s) microfinance business in India. Centrum is a non-banking finance company (NBFC) which has already received a microfinance institution (MFI) licence from the Reserve bank of India (RBI).
  • Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Action Construction Equipment Ltd (ACE) have tied up for augmenting tractors/agricultural implements financing to the farmers across India through PNB’s branch network.
  • The Indian Navy has signed a contract with Tata Power SED under the ‘Buy and Make’ category, through which Tata Power SED will supply Portable Diver Detection Sonar (PDDS) for Indian Navy.
  • India and the World Bank signed a $100-million loan and grant agreement for increasing solar power generation capacity in India.
  • 24th meeting of the Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency (APRSAF-24) forum held in Bengaluru. The theme for the 24th Session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-24) was ‘Space Technology for Enhanced Governance and Development’.
  • 42nd World Congress of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) begun in New Delhi on November 19, 2017. Theme of the 42nd World Congress of ICMM is “Military Medicine in Transition: Looking Ahead”.
  • India has ranked 51st out of 63 countries on IMD World Talent Ranking 2017. This marks an improvement of three spots as compared to previous year’s rank.Globally, Europe continues to dominate the rankings, with Switzerland, Denmark, and Belgium occupying the top three spots.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind awarded “Rashtriya Bal Kalyan Award 2017” to Super 30 founder Anand Kumar for his contributions in the field of teaching and education, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi. The Rashtriya Bal Kalyan Award was launched by the Department of Women and Child Development. It carries a citation and Rs. 1 lakh.
  • Sri Lankan author Anuk Arudpragasam’s “The Story of a Brief Marriage” has bagged the $25,000 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2017.
